Weather Presenter

Garry Youngberry is Nine News Queensland’s weeknight weather presenter.

A self-confessed surf, snow and weather junkie, Youngberry has reported on all three for print, radio and television for nearly 20 years. In 2009, Youngberry became Nine News Queensland’s weather presenter working alongside Andrew Lofthouse and Melissa Downes.

His media career combined his love for outdoor sports and a passion for weather. Starting as a beach and surf reporter for Newcastle stations NXFM & KOFM in 1991, Youngberry quickly progressed to snow reporting in the colder months working as the media supervisor for Perisher Blue Ski Report for seven years.

Youngberry graduated to presenting weather for FOXTEL’s Weather Channel in 2000 until he was appointed to 6pm News Weather Presenter for Australia’s leading regional station NBN Television.

In 2007 Youngberry authored his first book The Weather Book turning his passion into educating people on weather and the environment in Australia. This education program rolled out across New South Wales with presentations to local primary schools and community service organisations including the fire rescue teams in the Hunter region.

Youngberry has always been an avid sportsman starting at 14 as a competitive go-kart racer, winning junior and senior state championships. His love of the water was realised when he learned to surf and started competing in surf titles through Newcastle’s Catherine Hill Surf Club.  This quickly progressed to snowboarding where he competed in Giant Slalom and Boardercross competitions.
